A frontline team led by women with years of professional and personal experience working to bridge the gap in service provision.
A combination of Ebony+Sister. We support women from every race however grassroot agencies focusing on Black women are desperately needed. Our tag line “Supporting Our Sisters To Survive And Thrive” is based on a quote by Maya Angelou, “My mission in life is not merely to survive but to thrive with passion, compassion, humour and style”.
This sums up our ethos that it’s not just about surviving an abusive relationship but moving on to a thriving life.
The Ebonista Project is a Community Interest Company that provides emotional and practical support to women and children who have been subjected to domestic abuse.
We extend a warm welcome to women from all backgrounds but as a grassroots agency led by Black female survivors, we are able to advocate and bridge the gap for women of African and Caribbean heritage who have struggled to access mainstream services due to a lock of cultural understanding in our society following decades of systemic racism. This is historical across many service areas including health, criminal justice, education and housing and there are significant failings in the very system supposed to support vulnerable communities.
Our mission is to support and empower women who have faced such trauma and to educate and raise awareness through group work and 1-2-1 sessions.
The Ebonista service is client-led which ensures that each individuals’ voice is heard and valued. We work with the client and other agencies where required to create a person-centred plan of support where women can make informed choices about their journey of survival and onwards to a life free from abuse.
